Makeni, a vibrant town with a rich history, is home to many inspiring stories of community and connection. One organization leading the charge in fostering unity and development is Friends from Makeni. Visit Makeni had an exclusive interview with Amadu “Prezo” Nabay, the organization’s president, to learn more about their journey, accomplishments, and future vision.
Q1: Could you please introduce yourself and describe your role within the ‘Friends from Makeni’ organization?
My name is Amadu Nabay, though I’m widely known as “Prezo Nabay.” I currently serve as the President of Friends from Makeni, leading efforts to unite and uplift our community.

Q2: How long has the ‘Friends from Makeni’ organization been in existence?
Friends from Makeni has been active for the past 10 years, having been founded in 2015.
Q3: What are the core objectives and mission of the organization?
Friends from Makeni began as a simple WhatsApp group to reconnect friends and reminisce about our shared roots in Makeni. From there, it evolved into a formal platform bringing together people from various countries into a united community centered on love and support for our hometown. Our mission now focuses on giving back meaningfully to Makeni through community service and development.
Q4: Since its inception, what key milestones or accomplishments has the organization achieved?
Our first milestone was gathering over 150 members globally, united by friendship and cultural pride. We have launched an annual feeding program during Ramadan and December to support the less privileged, fully funded by our members.
We have extended support to vulnerable groups, including the Amputee Camp, Polio Camp, and Blind School. We also constructed a recreational center at the government hospital for children and erected the “Welcome to Makeni” landmark. Beyond infrastructure, we provide educational fees and medical assistance to those in need and work hand-in-hand with the city’s Mayor to drive development initiatives.

Q5: What are your future plans, and what types of partnerships are you seeking to further promote and support Makeni?
Our immediate focus is completing the first international school for children in Makeni and opening it to the public. We seek partnerships with like-minded organizations and individuals committed to sustainable development and community empowerment, to expand our impact and foster long-term growth.

Friends from Makeni stands as a testament to the power of friendship and collective action. Under the leadership of Prezo Nabay, the organization continues to inspire change and nurture hope for the people of Makeni. As they embark on new projects and partnerships, their commitment to community development remains unwavering.
