AWOGA OutingThe Anine Walsh Memorial School is an institution where young girls are nurtured to evolve into women of solidarity within society. Our school days forge bonds that transform friendships into sisterhoods. However, as time progresses and the pursuit of dreams intensifies, these connections often wane, and cherished memories gradually fade. Recognizing this, the leadership of AWOGA UniMak chapter wisely decided to organize an event to rekindle these bonds and the contacted Visit Makeni which is a distinguished tour guide company in the north, specializes in orchestrating exhilarating activities that have the power to rejuvenate spirits and create indelible experiences.
With all necessary arrangements finalized, Visit Makeni planned a hiking adventure at one of the highest and most historic mountains in the north, the renowned “Wusum Hill.” As preparations for the event unfolded, we received comprehensive updates and guidance from the Visit Makeni team. On the designated day, we convened at the meeting point located in “Fula Town,” at the mountain’s base. Victoria, who introduced herself as the tour operator, provided precise directions to the location and was already present upon my arrival, equipped with a first aid kit and sturdy hiking boots. She greeted me with a smile and encouraged patience to ensure no one was left behind. Before embarking on the hike, she imparted safety tips and emphasized the importance of looking out for one another, igniting a sense of camaraderie, fortified by the support of our boys, the esteemed Regentonians
The ascent up the hill was an emotional journey, fraught with mixed feelings. At times, one could marvel at the city’s beauty from the summit, while simultaneously experiencing trepidation at the sight of the distant ground below. Yet, under the expert guidance of our tour leader, we safely reached the pinnacle, despite the daunting yet exhilarating experience. The fun commenced during the climb, as my friends grappled with their fears.
Standing at the top of Wusum Hill was an indescribable experiencethe wind and panoramic views justified the climb. We enjoyed refreshments, engaging games, and the tour guide regaled the time spent, conversed with old friends, and captured numerous pictures to preserve the memories.
The pinnacle of the experience was witnessing the sun bid farewell to the earth-a truly enchanting and unparalleled sensation. I felt as though hiking packages included a bonus of chasing the sunset. We concluded the delightful day and safely descended to the mountains base and our goal of rebounding was met and all thanks to Visit Makeni that made our experience an unforgettable one.
