An Exclusive Interview with The CEO of Makeni Mountain Bike Championship

Meet Sheik Njai Kamara: The Visionary Behind the Makeni Mountain Bike Championship.

In the heart of Makeni, a powerful movement is taking shape-one fueled by passion, purpose, and the transformative power of sport. At the center of it all is Sheik Njai Kamara, CEO of the Makeni Mountain Bike Championship, a man whose love for cycling has sparked more than just a competition-it has ignited a community revolution.

What started as a personal passion has now grown into a bold initiative aimed at promoting sports, boosting local tourism, and celebrating the warmth and strength of Makeni’s supportive community.

In an interview with Sheik Njai we learnt more about the inspiration, vision, and future of the Makeni Mountain Bike Championship.

Q: Tell us about yourself and how this journey began.

Sheik:Cycling has always been more than a hobby for me-it’s a passion and a way of life. Over the years, I realized that Makeni has the perfect landscape, energy, and community spirit to host something unique. That’s how the Makeni Mountain Bike Championship was born. I wanted to create something that reflects our strength, resilience, and unity as a people.

Q: What is the main motive behind the Makeni Mountain Bike Championship?

Sheik:The primary goal is to promote sport in our region. But beyond that, we want to promote local tourism and support local businesses. When people travel to Makeni for the championship, they eat in our restaurants, stay in our guesthouses, buy from local vendors-it creates economic opportunities. At the same time, we’re building a culture of healthy competition and positive engagement for young people.

Q: How do you see this championship impacting young people in the community?

Sheik:This initiative has the potential to change the narrative for many young people. Instead of being defined by limited opportunities, they can now see sport as a platform for growth, discipline, and ambition.

We want young people to believe that they can achieve something meaningful right here in Makeni. This is just the beginning-there are many more opportunities to come.

Q: What makes Makeni the perfect home for this championship?

Sheik:Makeni is more than a location-it’s a community. The warmth, hospitality, and support from the people here are incredible. The terrain is ideal for mountain biking, and the energy from the community makes the event even more special.

This championship is not just about racing; it’s about celebrating Makeni.

More Than a Race -It a Movement

The Makeni Mountain Bike Championship is not just a sporting event. It’s a symbol of possibility. It represents youth empowerment, economic development, tourism promotion, and community pride.

Under the leadership of Sheik Njai Kamara, this initiative is setting the stage for long-term impact. What we are witnessing is the first chapter of a story that promises many more milestones ahead.

As Sheik confidently puts it:

“This is just the first. There are many more to count.”And with that spirit, Makeni rides forward-stronger, united, and inspired.
